MNGL to Cause a Surge in Gas Prices Starting Wednesday Onwards
Starting midnight Tuesday, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has increased the prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by ₹0.75/kg and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) by ₹0.75/SCM across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjawadi.
The new rates are: CNG- ₹89.75/kg (up from ₹89) and PNG- ₹50.65/SCM (up from ₹49.90).
The slight hike in CNG prices by MNGL has caused widespread panic as even a marginal surge can trigger the already existing inflation problem. The hike has been initiated keeping in mind the operational viability amidst rising input costs. However, consumers demand more price transparency.
MNGL stated that the hike is aimed at maintaining operational viability amidst rising input costs and assured that the impact on consumers has been kept minimal. However, this increase comes at a time when citizens are already facing high inflation.
Consumer rights groups are urging more transparency in pricing decisions and stronger government oversight in the energy sector. With MNGL serving thousands of households and vehicles, even a marginal hike has a widespread impact.
