Hinjawadi Metro Creates Lack of Connectivity, IT Sector Suffers
Pune's IT sector will have to wait longer for relief from traffic woes as the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) extends the deadline for the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro line to September 2025. The delay, initially set for March 2025, raises concerns over migration of professionals due to poor infrastructure.
The delay of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro line by the PMRDA has raised serious concerns for IT associates. The intense traffic at this junction has compelled IT workers to migrate for better conditions and companies plan on relocating their centers to ease their functionality. Experts urged the authorities to hasten the process to create a strong public transport system.
IT associations argue that Pune's Metro lacks priority, unlike other states where IT hubs and airports are first to get connectivity. Hinjawadi, housing six lakh employees, suffers from severe congestion, with over 12,000 vehicles per hour at peak times. While 85% of the Metro's civil work is complete, IT leaders express frustration over repeated delays.
Experts warn that the lack of efficient transport could push companies to relocate. Amid ongoing station and signaling work, IT employees urge authorities to expediate completion, emphasizing the need for a strong public transport system to sustain Pune's IT growth.
