Safety Inspection to be Carried Out After Completion of Maan-Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line Project

The Maan-Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro project is progressing rapidly, with 82% of the work completed. The metro is expected to be operational by October 2025, provided the remaining work, including a one-kilometer viaduct, is completed on time.

New line of metro running from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar is expected to commence operation from October 2025. Majority of the work has been finalized and fulfilled, yet a section of the project remains to achieve its goal of completion. A safety inspection is scheduled to be carried out after the addition of the finishing touches to the project.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) had previously warned contractors of punitive action for delays, which led to an increase in construction speed. After months of stagnation, work resumed in July 2024, but further delays resulted in an extended deadline of six months. The metro is being constructed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model within the Pune Regional Area Development Authority.

The entire corridor is elevated, standing 18-20 meters high, and crosses both the Pune-Bengaluru Highway and the Mula River. The total project cost is estimated at ₹8,313 crores. Out of 23 stations,12 have been completed, while others still require staircases and finishing work, particularly in Baner, Sakalnagar and Civil Court areas. Once construction is completed, a safety inspection will be carried out before metro operations begin.
