NH-48 Service Roads in Punawale, Bhumkar Chowk & Hinjawadi to Be Widened for Smoother Traffic

NH-48 Service Roads of PCMC to be redeveloped for better travel experience

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to develop and expand the service roads along NH-48 within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve infrastructure. Key Project Details include Service Road Expansion- the existing 12-metre-wide service road will be widened by another 12 meters, making it 24 meters wide; Total Road Width: NH-48’s total carriageway will be 60 meters, with 12-metre-wide Development Plan (DP) roads on both sides, bringing the total width to 84 meters; and Project Cost is estimated to be ₹604.59 crore.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to redevelop and expand the NH-48 serice roads to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion and improve infrastructure. PMC Commissioner also emphasized the dire need of improving the path of NH-48 for better industrial growth of the city.

The key locations impacted will be Punawale, Bhumkar Chowk, Hinjawadi, and Balewadi. Citizens have long demanded better service roads due to traffic congestion, poor road conditions, and waterlogging during monsoons. This project aims to resolve these issues and ensure smoother traffic movement. The takeaways from this project are Traffic Decongestion- Expanded service roads will reduce bottlenecks on NH-48, Improved Road Quality- Concrete footpaths will enhance durability and Advanced Drainage Systems- Designed to prevent waterlogging.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner, emphasized the importance of NH-48 for Pimpri-Chinchwad’s industrial and urban growth, stating that this project will improve traffic management and ease travel for both commuters and businesses. This critical infrastructure upgrade will enhance urban mobility and support the city's long-term development.
