Concerns Raised by Authorities Over Disengagement of Citizens on Democracy Day
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) holds Democracy Day on the first Monday of every month to resolve citizens' grievances swiftly. However, the latest session on March 3 saw only six complaint-based suggestions from a city of nearly three million- raising concerns about public disengagement.
Under the tenure of Shekhar Singh, Democracy Day is held on the first Monday of every month to cater to the grievances of the residents of the city. However, negligible response has been recorded in the recent session. Thus, Additional Commissioner urged the citizens to engage in this occurrence and submit their grievances in advance of the next Democracy Day.
Launched under Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh's leadership, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between residents and the administration. Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate chaired the session, urging citizens to participate actively by submitting grievances in advance. Suggestions included widening roads in Kalewadi, improving water supply, relocating a municipal hospital, and upgrading drainage systems.
Despite the low response, officials stressed the initiative's importance in urban development. Citizens can collect free grievance forms from civic centers and must submit them at least 15 days before Democracy Day. With such a direct line to governance, why isn't Pimpri-Chinchwad speaking up?
