Aesthetic Elements to be Added by PMC as a Part of Swacch Survekshan Initiative of Lake Beautification
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the beautification of Pashan, Model Colony, and Katraj lakes under the Swachh Survekshan initiative. The PMC Standing Committee sanctioned the proposal on February 27, allocating ₹41.88 lakh for Pashan and Katraj lakes and ₹49.42 lakh for Model Colony Lake.
Under the scheme of Swachh Survekshan, the PMC has approved and taken up the cause of beautification of various lakes in Pune. A budget has been allocated for the betterment of the three lakes namely Model Colony, Pashan and Katraj lakes. Cleaning of the lakes is also a part of the project under the AMRUT scheme.
The initiative aims to enhance the lakes' surroundings, making them more attractive to citizens. The project includes tree plantations, concrete paths, jogging tracks, proper waste disposal, and strict action against garbage dumping. Water fountains, flying benches, footpaths, and boundary wall paintings will also be part of the transformation.
To combat contamination, PMC has been working on cleaning the lakes and increasing their water-holding capacity. In 2017, a drainage system was introduced at Katraj Lake to filter untreated water, and a 2 MLD sewage treatment plant is under construction. Additionally, the AMRUT scheme has allocated funds for lake cleaning.
