PMC decides to shift parking facility at Maha-Metro for daily commuters

In a move aimed at addressing Pune’s parking woes, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to transfer the mechanized parking lot near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Udyan to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro).

PMC has decided to shift the mechanized parking lot currently present near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Udyan to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro). This has been done with the intention of easing traffic congestion and improving metro accessibility in the city.

The parking lot, originally built 10-12 years ago at a cost of ₹2.5 crore, has been non-operational for almost 7-8 years due to mismanagement, maintenance issues, and misuse. Initially managed by a private contractor, the facility was misused for storing showroom cars and irrelevant vehicles linked to a politician. The PMC revoked the contract and reclaimed the lot, and it has been the same since. With rising demand for parking near metro stations, PMC has transferred the facility to Maha-Metro for repairs and maintenance.

Now, commuters will be able to use this facility to its full potential. According to the new agreement between authorities, PMC will receive 80% of the revenue, while Maha-Metro will retain 20%. The funds are to be used for the maintenance of infrastructure. As Pune Metro services expand, adequate parking has become essential for commuters. Metro officials have urged PMC to improve parking infrastructure near stations. The transfer is expected to ease parking congestion and improve metro accessibility in the city.
