Pune Commuters Suffer in Heat Due to PMPML's Non-Deliverance
Pune's bus commuters continue to struggle under the scorching sun as PMPML fails to deliver on its promise of bus shelters. Despite transporting nearly 13 lakh passengers daily, the transport body has built only 100 bus stops in the last 1.5 years- far from the 300 promised under a BOT contract.
PMPML has failed to provide its commuters with proper civic facilities. Amidst the rising heat, commuters expect some sort of relief from the PMPML authorities in the form of bus stops. PMPML claims that action has been issued but the process may take a while, resulting in inconvenience to lakhs of passengers.
With over 9,000 bus stops across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and PMRDA areas, only 1,185 have shelters. The lack of shade forces senior citizens, women and children to stand in extreme heat for long periods, worsening their daily commute.
PMPML claims the contractor has been issued a notice, but no action has been taken. Meanwhile, passengers are left sweating on the roads, waiting for relief that never comes.
