Ridership of Pune Metro Suffers Due to Inadequate Facilities
Despite Pune Metro's 33-km expansion, ridership remains lower than expected, averaging between 1.4 lakh and 1.6 lakh daily instead of the projected two lakh.
Pune metro's ridership remains fixed at the usual 1.6 lakh commuters per day. The count was expected to surge particularly after the 33-km expansion done at various points in the city. Some infrastructural creations still remain incomplete, posing as the reason for Pune metro's low ridership. Commuters find it difficult to reach their destination due to poor accessibility.
MahaMetro officials cite inadequate last-mile connectivity as a key issue. While shared rickshaws and PMPML feeder services have been introduced, they have had little impact, and passengers continue to struggle with reaching metro stations conveniently.
Several crucial infrastructure projects, including Khadki Metro Station, additional entry points at Mandai and Yerwada, and the Sambhaji Park-Omkareshwar Temple bridge, remain incomplete, further limiting metro accessibility. Ridership peaked in January but declined in February and March, reflecting ongoing commuter dissatisfaction.
