Drivers of Pune's Uber Autos to Pay a Fixed Platform Fee of ₹19 to the Firm
Starting April1 2025, Uber auto-rickshaw drivers in Pune will charge passengers based on government-approved meter fares, aligning them with regular auto services.
This change follows a new arrangement signed on February 18, 2025, which also redefines Uber's role from an aggregator to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform. Under the revised model, Uber will no longer take a commission from auto-rickshaw drivers. Instead, drivers will pay a fixed daily fee of ₹19 to access Uber's platform.
Uber auto drivers will now charge passengers based on the fare depicted by the standard meter pricing as stated by the government. No extra charges, rush or peak hour pricing and cancellation fees can be charged by the auto drivers starting from 1st April onwards. The aim of this initiative is to promote transparency between drivers and passengers.
This transition cements Uber's position as a technology provider rather than a direct service intermediary. With these changes, passengers will no longer face peak hour pricing during rush hours or bad weather. While Uber's app will still show estimated fares, the final fare will be determined by the auto's meter reading, ensuring greater transparency and fair pricing for both drivers and passengers.
