Traffic DCP and Pune Traffic Police Ban Heavy Vehicles to Reduce Accidents and Congestion
In a bid to reduce traffic congestion and accidental deaths caused by larger vehicles, Pune Traffic Police ban heavy vehicles and have imposed strict restrictions on their movement within city limits.
The Pune Traffic Police ban heavy vehicles, or vehicles possessing more than 10 wheels, in order to ensure road safety. The Traffic DCP, Amol Zende expressed his concerns over the spike in the number of deaths caused by road accidents in Pune. Strict guidelines have been imposed on the movement of the vehicles in question.
According to an order issued on February 4 by DCP (Traffic) Amol Zende, heavy vehicles—including multi-axle trucks, containers, trailers, and bulkers with more than 10 wheels—will be banned from entering the city from Monday to Saturday between 7 AM and 10 PM. Essential service vehicles will be allowed entry only between 12 AM and 6 AM on designated routes.
The Mumbai-Bengaluru highway is exempt from the ban, but restricted areas or "red zones" will require prior permission. The move, implemented in coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), aims to enhance road safety. Zende emphasized that the ban follows multiple fatal accidents and public concerns, ensuring smoother traffic flow and better safety for Pune’s residents.
