Dust Pollution Emitted by Heavy Vehicles Carrying Construction Materials Leads to Respiratory Issues in Pune
Regulations to curb dust pollution remain largely ignored in Pune, as road transport vehicles carrying construction materials continue to operate without mandatory cloth covers. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) mandates strict guidelines to control dust pollution and emissions, but the municipal administration has failed to enforce them effectively.
Heavy vehicles carrying construction raw materials without mandatory cloth covers are causing immense dust pollution in Pune. This is creating panic among the residents regarding health and respiratory issues. MPCB has imposed regulations but the same are not being followed effectively. The authorities are intending to improve the situation. Nevertheless, the city is struggling with the rising dust pollution.
Heavy vehicles carrying sand, gravel and construction debris travel uncovered, releasing dust into the air. This not only obstructs visibility but also increases respiratory health risks for commuters. City Engineer Prashant Waghmare confirmed that action would be taken against violators only upon complaints. The traffic police have the authority to intervene, but enforcement remains inconsistent.
Complaints from citizens often trigger action, yet routine inspections are lacking. Despite regulations, the city continues to struggle with rising dust pollution, exposing residents to long-term health hazards.
