Sudden Spike in Mortality Graph Caused by Road Accidents in Maharashtra
In comparison to the year 2023, 2024 witnessed a spike in the mortality graph caused by road accidents due to the surge in number of vehicles in Maharashtra. Overpopulation has ultimately led to this situation on the road. The increase in rate can be calculated as 15,000 deaths per year, i.e. 42 fatalities in day.
Maharashtra has noticed a rise in the number of death cases caused by road accidents, from 2023 to recent times. 42 fatalities are reported daily, adding up to 15,000 deaths per year. Number of accidents on Mumbai-Pune Expressway also seem to have significantly increased. Dhule district in Maharashtra ranks number one amongst the districts witnessing the largest number of accidents.
As per the information provided by the Highway Police Data, accidents mainly occurring on Mumbai-Pune Expressway have also noticed a 19% rise in the number of them. On the other hand, Samruddhi Mahamarg or Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway has witnessed a 4% decrease in the number of road accidents.
A total of nine districts and cities in Maharashtra have reported an increase of 10% or more, in fatalities, with Dhule topping the chart. Dhule has noticed a rise of 25% of fatal accidents. Authorities have urged motorists and drivers to follow safety rules and guidelines for overall betterment of the system.
