Drop in the Sales of Water Tankers in Pune Due to Apparent Hygiene Negligence Amidst GBS
The rising cases of Guillain Barre Syndrome or GBS have caused widespread panic among the outskirt areas of Pune. Places like Dhayari, Ambegaon and Narhe are laden with the disease as of late, causing residents to resort to immediate preventive measures. The total count of the affected patients has now reached a harsh number of 130.
Since private water tankers are the main source of water supply in many residential areas, their sales have drastically declined due to the Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS). The spread is mainly concentrated in the Sinhagad region of the city. The residents have resorted to borewell water, resulting in a crash of water tanker prices.
In order to safeguard health and hygiene, residents have opted for water sources that do not stagnate. Borewells are now being opted for water consumption. This has resulted in sinking sales of water tankers that were extensively utilized previously. Water tankers were originally priced at Rupees.2,000/2,500. Now the sales have significantly dropped to Rupees.1,500 due to uncertainty of purity.
Multiple tests conducted by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) have located Campylobacter Jejuni that is apparently responsible for waterborne transmitted diseases. Pune Municipal Corporation Health Chief Dr. Nina Borade has raised concerns about the same and has assured that extensive survey and testing are in progress. Packaged water sales have also soared great heights, in contrast to water tankers. The follies of the city's water infrastructure have left the residents anxious about health and safety.
