Unbearable Heat Grips Pune as Mercury Soars Past 42°C, IMD Issues Caution
Report by The Newsage Pune.

Pune Weather Worsens Each Day, Causing Unbearable Heat

Pune is reeling under an intense heatwave, with daytime temperatures crossing 42°C in Lohgaon and 40.7°C in Shivajinagar on Wednesday. For the third consecutive day, the city and its suburbs have recorded scorching heat, leaving citizens struggling with dehydration, dizziness, and heatstroke-like symptoms under unbearable conditions.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that this heatwave will persist for the next two days, urging people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours. Monday saw the season’s highest temperature so far — 41.3°C — and nights haven’t brought much relief either, with increased discomfort reported even after sundown.

Pune has experienced the highest temperature for the summer season. This has resulted in serious concerns being raised regarding the health of Pune residents- old citizens, children and out-door workers specifically. Experts suggest consuming cool summer drinks to beat the heat. Combating the heat is the main aim of the authorities currently.

Health experts advise staying hydrated with 8-10 glasses of water daily, wearing caps or scarves, using sunscreen, and consuming homemade drinks like lemon water, coconut water, and buttermilk. Senior citizens, children, and outdoor workers are especially vulnerable.

As Pune sizzles in April, concerns about rising urban temperatures and the need for better heat mitigation measures are again front and center for city planners and citizens alike.
