Budget 2025: Funds Allocated for Pune Metro and Mula-Mutha Rejuvenation Projects

Finances of Pune Metro and Mula-Mutha Rejuvenation Projects decided upon in Union Budget Presentation of 2025

The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman presented India's Union Budget for the financial year of 2025-2026, on February 1st, 2025. She has earmarked Rupees.699.13 crores for the formation and expansion of Pune Metro. The authorities have determined routes to be created in areas where the Metro is currently non-functional. The funds for this project are expected to support the proposed extensions from PMC to Nigdi, Swargate to Katraj, and from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk.

India's Finance Minister allocated Rupees.699.13 crore and Rupees.230 crore for Pune Metro and Mula-Mutha Rejuvenation Projects respectively, in the recent Union Budget presentation. A Pune Metro Official has confirmed the news but is yet to verify the exact amount. A PMC official claimed the Mula-Mutha project to be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The smooth functioning of the existing lines from PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi have also been taken in consideration. Hemant Sonawane, an official of the Pune Metro, confirmed the budgetary provision but also claims that the finance department is yet to verify the amount. Regarding the river rejuvenation project, funding of Rupees.230 crore has been made.

A Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officer stated that the funding of this project is in motion through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The funds of the same are being handled, along with disbursement and interest costs, by the central government of the country, and will continue to be so.
