IMD Official Claims that Pune is Experiencing Severe Atmospheric Instability
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain and cloudy skies in Pune and other parts of Maharashtra on Monday and Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in the upcoming days in Pune. An IMD official has confirmed atmospheric instability due to erratic weather. This can be attributed to a number of geographical reasons. Educational institutions have been requested to function during the morning hours to avoid being harsh on students.
These weather conditions are expected to persist for at least a week. Pune has been experiencing unusually high temperatures, with several areas like Koregaon Park, Lohegaon, and Chinchwad frequently crossing 40°C this month. Former IMD official Dr. Anupam Kashyapi explained that the rise in temperature and moisture incursion has caused atmospheric instability, leading to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, which could result in rain, thunderstorm and even hail.
The IMD attributed the early summer onset to the absence of winter rains and western disturbances, In response to the intense heat, the Maharashtra government has instructed schools to operate only in the morning to protect students from extreme temperatures.
