Is Ice Gola Safe for you?
Report by The Newsage Pune.

Biggest Health Hazard this Summer- Contaminated Ice in Ice Gola

As temperatures soar across Pimpri, the craving for cold drinks, sugarcane juice, ice balls and ice gola is on the rise. But experts are sounding the alarm over the silent danger lurking in these summer refreshments — contaminated ice. Much of the ice used at juice stalls and roadside vendors is made from untreated water, and in some cases, ammonia gas is used to extend its shelf life, posing serious health risks if consumed.

The urge to consume cold food products is inevitable during this year's summer season. However, authorities have raised questions against street vendors selling ice products, regarding the source of water used in making the ice. There are high chances of unhygienic and unsanitary conditions under which the ice for consumption has been frozen. Investigations are underway and consumers are warned.

There are two types of ice: white ice, considered safe for consumption, and blue ice, meant for industrial or mortuary purposes. While vendors are largely seen using white ice, concerns remain about its source, cleanliness, and storage conditions. Ice wrapped in dirty cloth or stored in unsanitary containers raises red flags.

The Food and Drug Administration has launched inspections of both ice manufacturers and vendors. Authorities warn of strict action against those failing to meet safety standards. Citizens are urged to stay alert and check the hygiene of ice before consuming their favorite summer treats.
