MPLAD Funds to be Dedicated to the Redevelopment of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Memorial
Pune MP and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol has announced plans to redevelop the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj memorial of Deccan using his MPLAD funds.
MP Murlidhar Mohol has proposed beautification and redevelopment of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj memorial in Deccan with the help of his MPLAD funds. He intends to introduce many facilities for citizens in the premises. However, he received major criticism for this idea, and PMC officials are yet to confirm details.
This comes months after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) sanctioned ₹47.27 lakh for a canopy and beautification in October 2024. Mohol shared a video on social media, stating that the redevelopment will include modern facilities to honor Sambhaji Maharaj's legacy.
The PMC's proposal involves a quadrangle, a polyester resin canopy, and improved access. However, civic activist Vijay Kumbhar criticized the move, arguing that MPLAD funds should be used for essential infrastructure rather than beautification. PMC officials confirmed discussions with Mohol to finalize the project details, ensuring alignment with ongoing civic developments.
