Major Rivers of Maharashtra Including Mula-Mutha Suffer from Extreme Water Pollution
In his Gudi Padwa speech, Raj Thackeray raised alarm over the deteriorating condition of Maharashtra's rivers, particularly Mithi, Mula-Mutha, Pawna and Indrayani amongst others, calling them among the most polluted in the state.
Recently, Raj Thackeray expressed major concern over the absolute degeneration of the water bodies in Maharashtra. He pointed out that the purity of the rivers is being compromised in the name of religious activities and that this practice should cease. He urged the Pollution Control Board to save the five rivers in Mumbai from collapsing.
Criticizing pollution in the name of religion, he cited the aftermath of the Kumbh Mela, where thousands fell ill after taking a dip in the Ganga, despite ₹33,000 crore spent on cleaning efforts.
Thackeray highlighted that 55 rivers in Maharashtra are at risk, with Mumbai's Mithi River nearing complete ecological collapse. "Out of Mumbai's five rivers, four are already dead, and the fifth is on the verge of dying. What is the Pollution Control Board doing?" he questioned.
