Samples of Pig Deaths in Kothrud Sent to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases for Investigation
Pune's Kothrud area has reported over 50 pig deaths since early February, sparking health concerns amid the ongoing Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) outbreak.
50 pig deaths have occurred mysteriously in the Kothrud area of Pune. PMC started immediate investigation and had suspected food poisoning amidst the outbreak of GBS. Samples have been sent to Bhopal to discover the cause of this wave. Pig slaughterhouses are also under strict observation. However, residents argue supporting the possibility of foul play.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is investigating the course, with initial findings pointing towards food poisoning. Samples have been sent to the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal. The PMC is also closely monitoring slaughterhouses. A source within PMC revealed, "Slaughterhouses are under strict surveillance."
Meanwhile, PMC health chief Dr. Nina Borade stated that tests ruled out African swine fever and other viral infections, suggesting food poisoning as the likely cause. The investigation continues as locals question the possibility of foul play behind the mysterious deaths.
