Operation Conducted by Anti-Narcotics Cell to Seize Heavy Amounts of Varied Drugs
The Pune Police disposed of 788 kg of seized narcotics worth ₹8 crore on Tuesday at Maharashtra Enviro Power Ltd., Ranjangaon MIDC, an authorized facility for hazardous and narcotic waste disposal.
After an increase in Pune's drug addiction, ANC conducted a crackdown at Maharashtra Enviro Power Ltd. and retrieved 788 kg worth of narcotics. In the process, 84 individuals responsible for drug exchanges have been arrested. Measures are underway to prevent Pune from becoming the new hub for drugs.
The operation was conducted under the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in collaboration with regulatory agencies. The destroyed contraband included Mephedrone (MD), Ganja, Cocaine, Ephedrine, LSD, Charas, Opium, Poppy Straw, Heroin and Ganja Banta Pills, confiscated across 57 NDPS cases.
The disposal process was supervised by senior police officials, forensic experts and pollution control authorities to ensure transparency. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar highlighted Pune's growing drug problem, revealing that an additional 1,800 kg of Mephedrone, valued at ₹3,500 crore, seized in February 2024, is in the final phase of disposal. So far, 84 individuals have been arrested in connection with drug related offenses, raising concerns about Pune's emerging status as Maharashtra's new drug hub.
