Water-Borne Disease, GBS Outbreak, Comes to an End in Maharashtra
The municipal corporation has officially declared the end of the GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome) outbreak in Sinhagad Road area after no new cases were reported since February 18.
A formal letter will be sent to the Deputy Director of Health to confirm the outbreak's closure. Since January, 66 cases were recorded, with the disease primarily spreading through contaminated water and food. Intensive measures, including house-to-house surveys and water testing, were implemented to contain the outbreak.
PMC has announced the closure of GBS, as no cases have been reported since February 2025. The disease has now stopped appearing in the form of new cases. Head of Health of PMC has claimed that the disease is now under full control. However, OPD services will continue to function in regard to the syndrome.
Dr. Nina Borade, Head of Health of the Municipal Corporation, confirmed that the disease is now under control, with no recent cases reported in affected areas such as Nanded, Dhayari, and Kirkatwadi. While door-to-door surveys will be scaled down, water testing and OPD services at municipal hospitals will continue to monitor public health.
