Advocate Wanjale Files NGT Petition Over Indrayani River Pollution to Reverse Water Pollution Damage
A city-based lawyer has approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Western Zone Bench in Pune seeking urgent action to address the deteriorating condition of the Indrayani River. The NGT petition over Indrayani River Pollution was filed by Advocate Pratik Wanjale filed against several key authorities, including the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and MIDC.
A Pune-based lawyer appoached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Western Zone Bench with the intention of drawing their intention to the deteriorating condition of the Indrayani River. Advocate Wanjale files NGT petition over Indrayani River Pollution as the water body has been subjected to industrial and domestic waste. The court hearing has been schedules for 17th March 2025.
The petition highlights severe pollution caused by industrial and domestic waste flowing into the river, particularly in the Alandi Devasthan area, where toxic foam formation and air pollution have worsened environmental conditions. Wanjale, who personally inspected the site, reported foul odors, eye irritation, and visible contamination in the river.
The NGT, acknowledging the gravity of the issue, has tagged the case with other similar petitions and scheduled the next hearing for 17th March. The petition underscores long-standing environmental neglect despite previous media coverage and NGT interventions.
