Pune Takes the Lead in Having the Largest Number of Cyber Fraud Cases in Maharashtra
Mumbai-Maharashtra recorded 8,947 cyber fraud cases in the past year, resulting in financial losses of ₹7,634 crore.
Pune recorded the highest fraud amount, ₹6,779 crore, while Mumbai registered 4,849 cases, leading to losses of ₹888 crore. The data was revealed in the Legislative Assembly during a session where MLAs raised concerns over rising cybercrimes.
Rising cybercrime cases in Maharashtra, especially Mumbai and Pune cause panic amongst government officials about the safety of online users. A whopping sum of 8,947 cases has been reported only as of last year. Pune is leading the march, followed by Mumbai. Authorities assure that the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project is underway and will soon be operational.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that 50 cyber police stations are operational across Maharashtra, with a Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics established in Pune. Additionally, the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project is in its final stages and will be implemented soon.
