Drastic Drop in the Number of GBS cases in Pune, As Per Survey Reports
Pune reported only one new case of possible Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) on Monday, involving a patient who was brought to the city from another district. Officials say the January surge, which affected 217 people so far, is showing signs of slowing down. Dr. Nina Borade, Chief Health officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), stated, " Since February 20, we haven't had a single GBS case from Pune city. "
GBS cases have drastically reduced since February. Earlier, ample of cases were being reported on a daily basis. Currently, only one new case has been reported as of Monday involving a patient from another district altogether, thus, eliminating Pune as a zone of danger for the spread of this syndrome.
Even previously affected clusters, particularly around Sinhagad Road, are now seeing minimal new cases. She highlighted recent trends starting from 10th February onwards and reported one case from Khadakwasla on the same day. Improvement in conditions were noticed as no cases were detected in the cluster zone from 11th-19th February. However, one case outside of the cluster zone was identified in Karvenagar on 18th February. Lastly, a singular case linked to a water-vending machine was noticed in Dhayari on 20th February. Authorities are now tracking individuals who used the same water-vending machine.
Meanwhile, door-to-door surveys continue, having covered 46,000 homes in Pune and 29,000 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where 32 cases have been reported. Dr. Radhakishan Pawar, Deputy Director of State Health Services (Pune Zone), reassured that Pune's GBS cases are within normal limits, and the city's status as a healthcare hub attracts cases from Vidarbha and Marathwada.
