PCM's Laxity Leads to Clerical Error, Issues Water Bill of Worth ₹10,74,787 to Pune Senior Citizen
Pune senior citizen and resident Govin Gore, 75, was left in shock on March 3 after receiving an exorbitant water bill of ₹10,74,787 from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
A Pune-based resident was taken aback by the exorbitantly charged water bill he received on 3rd March 2025. The resident claimed that he never paid an amount more than Rs 100-125, therefore this came to him as an absolute shock. Gore remains distressed as he has received no formal intimation from PMC.
Gore, who typically pays around Rs 100-125 per month, realized the bill carried his phone number but someone else's name, indicating a clerical error. Despite filing a complaint on March 4, he received no response from PMC officials. When he attempted to meet the municipal commissioner on March 12, staff merely advised him to "go home and rest".
Gore, who lives with his wife and unemployed son, remains distressed as there has been no formal clarification from the PMC regarding the erroneous bill. Civic officials have assured a reveiew of the matter.
