PCMC Held Accountable for Inability to Curb Untreated Sewage Pollution of Pune Rivers

Citizens and environmental activists are alarmed as toxic foam was once again spotted in the Pavana River near Kejubai Band on Friday. This marks the second such incident within a week, raising serious concerns about unchecked pollution.

Pavana River was listed as one of the most polluted rivers in India last year. Toxic foam has been frequently found recently in the same water body raising serious concerns amongst environmentalists who have also demanded immediate to take charge of the increasing water pollution.

A similar occurrence was reported on Wednesday in the Mula River near Vishalnagar, Pimple Nilakh. Residents blame the Pollution Board and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for inaction despite repeated complaints. Activist Prashant Raul highlighted that untreated domestic sewage is the primary pollutant, with industrial discharge playing a smaller role.

Last year, the Pavana River was listed among India's most polluted water bodies. Locals demand immediate intervention, urging authorities to implement strict pollution control measures and ensure better coordination among local bodies to prevent further environmental damage.
