Pimpri-Chinchwad Expected to Provide Extra 130 MLD of Water in the Area Amidst Water Crisis
Pimpri-Chinchwad is facing a severe water problem as soaring temperatures push demand beyond supply. Over the past 40 days, residents have lodged 1,092 complaints about erratic and insufficient water supply, with 549 still unresolved, according to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Rising heat in the city of Pune has led to a severe water crisis especially in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Many complaints to the PCMC still remain unresolved as the water demand stands at a solid 750 MLD. PCMC has assured that relief will soon reach the residents by December 2025. Until then, citizens are expected to use water conservatively.
The city receives 620 MLD from various sources, yet demand stands at 750 MLD. Population growth and pipeline delays from Bhama Ashked dam have worsened shortages, particularly in Bhosari. Misuse of water for cleaning and gardening has further aggravated the situation. Despite efforts to implement an alternate-day supply since 2019, citizens remain frustrated.
PCMC has warned against water wastage and assured that relief will come by December 2025, once ongoing projects are completed. Meanwhile, residents are urged to conserve water to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
